My childcare career started as soon as I completed my HSC in 2004, I applied for a job at a childcare centre where I worked casually whilst I waited to begin my Diploma in Children’s Services the following year at TAFE. Once the course began, the centre I was working at asked me to stay on and complete my Diploma while working at the same time. For the duration of the course I juggled studying full time at TAFE and working, this ended up being a great
opportunity for me to develop and practice my new learnt skills hands on.
Once I completed my Diploma in 2007, I have been challenged in many different avenues within the child care industry. I have been responsible for developing and teaching the preschool program, and also spent some time as room leader for the younger age groups. During this time I spent four years in various management roles, gaining fundamental skills and knowledge of the child care industry.
I am a firm believer in the saying “choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” I have been engaged in the childcare industry for almost 10 years, and never looked back, it’s not just a job it’s my life.
What I love most about my job is being part of a childs journey in life, knowing that my teachings influence them not only while they are in my care but for the rest of their lives. I enjoy watching them grow, celebrating their achievements, big or small, developing special bonds, and one of the hardest but most rewarding part of my job is sending them off to big school.
I have dedicated many years and gained great experience and knowledge in child care and I will bring all of this to Endeavour. My strengths lie in developing an atmosphere that is a pleasure to be in for all children, families, educators and everyone who is associated with Endeavour. My personal philosophy and years of experience in the child care field will be an asset to Endeavour Early Education as my goal is to achieve exceeding National Quality Standards in all areas.
Children also develop social awareness through dance as it fosters social interaction and cooperation allowing them to understand themselves in relation to others. Dance provides young children multiple perspectives. It is “a foundation of experience necessary for the future development of more advanced skills and a way to affirm an inner life and alternate realities” (Stinson, 1990). Through dance, children develop enhanced sensory awareness, cognition, and consciousness. It is this heightened state that creates the magic of movement that is dance.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am a huge sports fanatic and will watch anything from football, soccer, motorsport and tennis. I’m also one of those people that wake up at ridiculous times of the morning to watch my favorite team Manchester United play. When my days aren’t filled with sports, I do enjoy shopping, watching a good movie, relaxing at the beach and spontaneous long drives.
My passion for childcare initiated from my studies in year 11 and 12 ‘Exploring Early Childhood’ where I also attended TAFE through a Tvet course gaining a Certificate II in Children’s Services.
I followed through in the new year by completing my Cert III in Children’s Services. Soon after I was thrilled to be employed in the Childcare industry as a casual in various places, until I was offered a permanent position at this very Centre almost 9 years ago. During this time, I was eager to expand my knowledge which led me to achieving a Diploma in Children Services. In addition to this I have also participated in several valuable courses such as, the role of a Room leader, ‘Munch & Move’, ‘Self-Regulation, Music & Yoga’.
I have had extensive hands on experience as an Educator creating and implementing the Preschool program as well as various activities to build multiple skills in a fun environment.
I love that I can help to bring a positive influence in a child’s life to make the steps to ‘Big School’ not so daunting.
Of course, when the children leave there are a few tears shed (by me) as I have grown to know their unique personalities. At the same time, it is rewarding to look back at their accomplishments.
Being part of such a wonderful team, working together celebrating achievements and solving problems is just a couple of the reasons why I love working at this Centre.
Over the years I have gained a wealth of knowledge into the daily operations of a childcare centre.
With a cheerful approach I strive to be consistent and organised with the ability to communicate in all levels while creating a welcoming environment.
I am dedicated to achieving the optimal outcome for Endeavour ensuring the families expectations are met.
I enjoy gym activities, bush walking and catching up with friends. When relaxing I like to sink myself into a good movie or find a scenic setting where I can unwind whilst listening to music.
